Underwater robots to survey site of California's first floating offshore wind farm

Autonomous underwater robots will survey the site of the US's first floating offshore wind farm in Morro Bay, California.

The 2 GW Morro Bay project, leased by Equinor, could power 750,000 households.

Equinor contracted marine robotics company Ocean Infinity to use multiple AUVs (autonomous underwater vehicles) for the survey.

AUVs can go to depths divers can't and collect data to inform Equinor's wind farm design and plans.

The AUVs will be deployed at Morro Bay in February 2024 to conduct the survey.
