UAW Sets Sights on Tesla, Toyota After Reaching Deals with Detroit Automakers

UAW reached tentative deals with Detroit automakers, now looking to target Tesla, Toyota, and other non-union automakers in 2028 talks.

UAW president specifically named Tesla and Toyota as future targets. Tesla and Toyota plants in U.S. don't have unions currently.

UAW has set up organizing committee at Tesla's 20,000-worker California plant to convince workers to unionize.

Unionizing Tesla seen as a grand prize for UAW to grow membership and stay relevant amid EV shift.

But Tesla CEO Elon Musk has aggressively opposed all past union efforts. Failed union drives at Fremont plant previously.
