Target Scraps Plans for New Philadelphia Store Amid Rising Retail Theft

Target scrapped plans to open a new store in Philadelphia's University City area without giving a specific reason.

The decision comes after Target closed 9 other stores nationwide due to theft and organized retail crime.

Target still has 10 other Philadelphia stores and about 50 in the metro area.

The now-scrapped University City store was to open near UPenn's campus.

Over 500 Target employees were impacted by recent closures in New York, Seattle, and Oregon due to crime.
