Adm. Lisa Franchetti Confirmed as First Female Navy Chief Despite Senator's Objections

Senate confirms Adm. Lisa Franchetti as chief of naval operations, first female service chief and member of Joint Chiefs.

Sen. Tuberville has drawn criticism for holding up almost 400 military nominations to protest Pentagon abortion policy.

Franchetti has broad command experience, including leading U.S. 6th Fleet and U.S. Naval Forces Korea.

Despite objections, Senate confirmed Franchetti 95-1 and will confirm other top officers held up by Tuberville.

Senators warn Tuberville his holds are harming military readiness and threaten new rules to circumvent the objections.
