Senate Confirms Franchetti as First Female Navy Chief and Allvin as New Air Force Chief While Tuberville Hold Freezes Other Military Promotions

The Senate confirmed Adm. Lisa Franchetti as the first female chief of naval operations and Gen. David Allvin as Air Force chief of staff.

The confirmations give the Joint Chiefs a full slate of Senate-confirmed officers for the first time since July.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville has imposed a blanket hold on senior military promotions in protest of the Pentagon's abortion travel policy.

Tuberville's hold has frozen several hundred military nominations, frustrating members of both parties.

The Senate also confirmed Lt. Gen. Christopher Mahoney to be the second ranking officer in the Marine Corps after Commandant Gen. Eric Smith was hospitalized.
