Durbin First Senator to Call for Israel-Hamas Ceasefire, Withdrawal from Gaza

Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin called for an immediate ceasefire in Israel-Hamas war, becoming the first Senator to do so.

Durbin said ceasefire should be contingent on "immediate release" of Hamas hostages in Gaza.

Durbin acknowledged the conflict has gone on for decades but said it has now reached an "intolerable level".

Some far-left House Democrats and UN have also called for ceasefire amid civilian casualties in Gaza.

House Speaker Mike Johnson opposed ceasefire calls, saying Israel needs support not politics from allies.
