NY Times Sports Section Shuttered Amid Newsroom Protests After Outsourcing to The Athletic

The New York Times standalone sports section will officially end on Monday, resulting in protests and outrage from the newsroom union.

The Times will now rely primarily on The Athletic for sports coverage after acquiring the site last year.

Times sports staffers are planning a march and rally outside headquarters in continued protest of the decision.

Several longtime Times sportswriters have already relocated to The Athletic, which is not unionized.

The Times plans to create a new sports business pod within the business desk with existing sports staffers.
