'Cryptoqueen' Remains at Large After $4 Billion OneCoin Cryptocurrency Scam and Partner's 20-Year Sentence

Ruja Ignatova, known as the "Cryptoqueen", remains a fugitive after vanishing in 2017. Her partner Karl Sebastian Greenwood was sentenced to 20 years for their $4 billion OneCoin cryptocurrency scam.

Ignatova and Greenwood conned over 3 million investors by falsely marketing OneCoin as the "Bitcoin killer". In reality, OneCoins were worthless.

Ignatova referred to OneCoin as a "trashy coin" in emails. She proposed an exit plan to "take the money and run".

Greenwood used investor funds to buy luxury items and homes worldwide. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering charges.

Prosecutors hope the lengthy sentence deters fraud in cryptocurrency. OneCoin was one of the largest global fraud schemes ever.
