Ford Patents Bolt-On Third Axle for F-150 to Boost Payload Capacity

Ford has patented a bolt-on third axle for the F-150 to increase payload capacity

The extra axle could be made electric to provide extra torque when carrying heavy loads

This would allow customers to convert their trucks to 6-wheeled models at the dealer

The patent filing says this would be cheaper than Ford's previous Heavy Payload Package

Body modifications like new wheel arches may be needed to accommodate the extra axle
