Erdogan Hints Turkey May Abandon EU Bid After Critical European Parliament Report

Turkish President Erdogan implied Turkey may end its EU membership bid, saying it could "part ways" with the EU.

Erdogan's comments came after a European Parliament report said Turkey's EU accession process cannot resume under current circumstances.

The report called for the EU to explore a "parallel and realistic framework" for ties with Turkey instead.

Turkey condemned the report as "unfounded" and said it took a "shallow" approach to EU-Turkey relations.

EU-Turkey accession talks began in 2005 but are effectively frozen due to EU concerns over Turkey's rule of law and human rights.
