Rep. Wexton Announces Retirement Due to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Diagnosis

Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-Va.) announced retirement at end of term due to rare neurological condition progressive supranuclear palsy.

Previously diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in April, but new diagnosis means faster disease progression.

Plans to leave Congress after finishing third term in early 2025 to spend time with family and friends.

Wexton won competitive 2018 House race and went on to comfortably win two more.

Her retirement could make her Northern Virginia district newly competitive for Republicans.
