AMD Unveils New Ryzen 7040U Laptop Chips With Zen 4 and Zen 4c Cores for Improved Performance and Efficiency

AMD announced new Ryzen 7040U laptop chips combining Zen 4 and Zen 4c cores. Zen 4c uses 35% less die space but has same capabilities.

The new Phoenix 2 chips have 2 Zen 4 cores, 4 Zen 4c cores, and RDNA3 iGPU.

Zen 4 for performance, Zen 4c for efficiency. AMD can fit more cores in same space with 4c.

Unlike Intel big/little cores, Zen 4 and 4c have same architecture and features. 4c just lower clocks.

After servers, Zen 4c coming to more laptops for cheaper options and higher core counts in high-end models.
